He awoke from a nightmare about garden gnomes and shuddered. Even though his eyes were now opened, he could still see them running towards him and could feel their little hands grabbing at his legs.

Quickly, he kicked off the blankets and freed his legs, needing to move and shake off the impression that there were dozens of little bodies surrounding him.

He walked to the window and stood looking out over the fields surrounding the Burrow. When he thought of all the horrors he had faced, gnomes seemed like such an innocuous threat, and yet they were what came to him in his dreams most often. Perhaps it was because they truly were in his backyard and he could never get away from them.

Over the years he had tried every de-gnoming trick he could find. He had bought books and sprays and nets, without ever being able to be rid of the little blighters. In the end, he had resorted to having the boys fling them bodily out of the yard during each school holiday, and yet they always came back.

Perhaps that persistence played a part in the nightmares as well. He had fought in two wars in an attempt to eradicate an evil from the world, and those gnomes reminded him that he was never really safe. His borders could be crossed. Evil could return.

"Ridiculous." He scoffed to himself. "Making a fuss over nothing."

Arthur sat back on the bed and listened to Molly's breath beside him. She made a small mew as she rolled to the side and he watched her arm snake out towards his side of the bed, fingers curling into the empty sheet. He reached for her hand and as he touched her skin he could see her settle back into a deep sleep.

This. This is what he had fought for. To be able to be with his loved ones and for those he loved to sleep safely in their beds at night. Even with all of the loses, there was still love in the world. Evil had not triumphed. And if it came again, good would prevail.

He tucked himself back under the covers and pulled himself over to Molly. He breathed in the scent of her hair and wrapped and arm around her waist. In her sleep she burrowed closer in to him.

And as he fell back to sleep, he knew that his dreams tonight would be peaceful. And that whatever was to come, he would face with love at his side.
